I’ve learned in my 23 years of life that you will have people in your life that will take, take, and take some more. Those same people are nowhere to be found when it’s time to give a little. When it’s you that’s in need of a shoulder to cry on, and ear to just listen, a friend, they’re not there.
I’ve learned that that’s just life.
More of your relationships than I’d like to admit will be one sided. The saddest part is that a lot of times it’s those that you felt you could really count on that end up being duds. Sometimes your going to give, give, and give and never get anything back but that’s ok. Life really does go on, whether or not you’re ready for it. It’s our duty to love others but not everyone can return the favor and we have to learn to be okay with that.
I find encouragement in the fact that Jesus knows exactly how I’m feeling. Everyone, myself included, takes from Him and yet have such a difficult time giving anything back to Him. We enjoy financial blessings but can’t seem to pay our tithes. We love being in His presence yet can’t seem to commit to a relationship with Him. We enjoy every blessing that comes with being a child of God, yet find it more than difficult to devote our lives to serving Him. Oh, but He gives more than we could ever give back, so why try right?
When I’m feeling used, I’m glad I can pour my heart out to Jesus, knowing full well He understands perfectly. He knows what it’s like to give love to people and not get it back. That’s why He is my very best friend. He completely understands me, and what a wonderful thing it is.
So when you’ve given and not gotten back from people, try giving it to Jesus, He will take care of everything. He’s the best listener, He’s the only one that can give lasting peace after a good cry and He’s the greatest and most loyal friend you’ll ever find.
